I know, I know. You’re thinking “What does she know about being single? She has a boyfriend.” Before you get all upset with me (I remember thinking those thoughts for others), please remember that I was single for a LONG time before I started dating and even now, in some ways, I’m single.

Let me explain that last comment as it may upset some. When I say that in some ways, I’m single, I don’t mean that I’m out looking to date. That’s not the aspect of single I’m referring to. Instead, I’m talking about the other things that go with being single – not having a date to functions, not having anyone around in the evening, and so on. There are many parts of long distance that feel like being single again. The biggest difference – I’m not out looking to date someone.

With all of this being said, I’m going to list FIVE things that single girls get to do that most girls in a couple do not get to enjoy. This isn’t to say that one lifestyle is better than another. It’s simply to say that there are awesome things about all points in our girly lives!

So, here goes…

Five Perks of Being the Single Girl

1. You don’t have to answer to anyone but yourself.
When you want to go do something, you don’t have to check in with your boyfriend to see if you have any plans. You don’t have to consider what he’ll be doing while you’re out with the girls. It’s all you – you’re the only person you have to answer to.

2. You don’t have to share.
The remote, the bed…they’re all yours. You can choose what you watch on TV or what’s for dinner. You don’t have to worry about someone hogging the covers or waking you in the middle of the night.

(Okay, sometimes I have to share the bed.)

3. You don’t have to worry about your looks.
You can walk around the house with your hair disheveled and your face covered in green goop and not have to worry about what he’s thinking. You get to enjoy being you without worrying what someone else is thinking. (Sidenote: in a good relationship, you get to this point too – but it takes time!)

(Selfie!)

4. Your money is all yours.
Your expenses and money are all yours. You don’t have to check with someone else before you spend money. You don’t have to wonder who’s going to get the check this time. If you’re spending money, it’s all on you!

(Shopping! Yay!)

5. You can decorate any way you like.
You can decorate the house any way that you like. Want girly decorations for February? Go for it! Nobody’s going to say anything.

Just because there are great things about being single doesn’t mean I don’t love being in a relationship. I could create a list of perks for that as well. The point of this post is to remind all of my single pals that there are lots of things to enjoy now. Don’t rush things – enjoy life as it is. (I know this is easier said than done, but you can always try!)
