I’m the girl who remembers random dates and points them out. I don’t necessarily do anything to celebrate these special dates (which is a good thing, since J and I haven’t really been together for the milestones), but I do always point them out.

The latest random date? Happy One Year Apart. Last year, on May 18th, J and I went our separate ways (him to CA and me back to SC). We officially started the long distance part of our relationship. We had dated for almost a year before that.

I’ll be honest – I didn’t think we’d make it. I’d grown up in a military style and he’s been in the military lifestyle long enough that I thought it would be our downfall. As a military kid, I learned how to make new friends easily and also how to cut the ties when they moved away. Granted, there are many new technologies in place that make keeping in touch a lot easier, but I still figured old ways would kick in.

I’m glad they didn’t. I’m glad we have stuck it out and that there’s now an end in site. I’m excited to know that we’ll be together before the end of 2014! We’ve survived on emails, texting and, phone calls – no fancy skyping for us. We’ve only had the chance to visit each other twice in the past year. In fact, I haven’t seen him since January! I’m excited to know that the next time I see him, it will be to load up a truck to move to California.

I’d say one year apart is definitely something to celebrate!

Since this was a big part of my weekend (coupled with a lot of stress-induced sleep), I’m linking up…
