The following tips can help you change your relationship with your mirror.
Look beyond your flaws.
You need a sheet of paper and pen for this one. Look in the mirror - really look in the mirror. Now, write down ten things that you love about your body. I don't want you to stop until you've found ten positives about your body. This may take a while and that's okay - flaws are often easier to spot than beauty. Remember, we're looking beyond the flaws we initially see. I don't want a single flaw on your list!
Look inside of you.
Take that same sheet of paper and turn it over. I want you to write down ten non-physical things that you love about yourself. Maybe you're organized or a passionate. Maybe you love that you're a good friend to everyone. Take the time to do some inner reflection and don't stop until you've got at least ten items on that list!
Enlist the help of your friends.
There are several ways you can do this. You can text, call, or even post on social media for this list (I've even provided a graphic below.). Ask your friends to tell you two things that they love about you. I recommend using text or a more personal social media page for this activity because you're friends are more likely to see it. Save these for days that you're feeling down about yourself! (Save the following graphic and post it to your Facebook wall! Invite your friends to do the same!)
Create a visual reminder.
This one is going to look different for everyone. I want you to create a collage, picture collection, subway art, or other visual reminder of why you should love yourself. Maybe there's a picture that you really love of yourself - don't be afraid to display it! Maybe there's a set of words you'd like to remember - decorate them and put them out as a reminder! Create (or buy) a visual display that will remind you of the things you love about yourself. Display it in your favorite room (or beside your mirror) as a constant reminder!
Go a day without looking in the mirror.
Take a day and go without looking in a mirror. This might be kind of tricky if you pass mirrors on a daily basis, but it's definitely worth giving a try. We spend so much time judging ourselves that we forget to enjoy being with ourselves sometimes. Take a day away from the judgment of the mirror and simply enjoy who you are.
Put your best foot forward.
If all else fails, take a day to put on your favorite outfit, do your hair, and enjoy the result. Sometimes it takes a little pampering and beauty to help us remember who we are. Let your inside shine on the outside.
