Are you ready for this super easy change that you can make to your to do list that will help you get more done?
In order to get more done, you need to prioritize the items on your to do list. That's it - one small change and you'll see a huge difference in your daily productivity.
How do I prioritize my to do list?
It's quite easy really. First, start by making your normal to do list. Write out all of the things that you want to accomplish for the day. Then, grab the free worksheet from The Happy Files, and get ready to rock that list!
Now, you have to determine which items are the most important and which are the least important. I like to put items with a close deadline as my top priorities and those with less pressing deadlines further down the list. Each and every item should get a 1, 2, 3, or 4 priority rating. Those with a 1 are the most important and those with a 4 are the least important (and could really be moved to another day if time gets in the way.)
Now comes the part where you have to stay disciplined. Focus on completing all of the tasks in Priority 1 before you move on to Priority 2. In fact, don't even look at the other priorities until you've finished the box you're in.
At the end of the day, reevaluate your list and move items into new priorities as needed. Tasks will move around on the list as your week goes on and that's exactly how it's supposed to work. For example, a Friday blog post that needs to be written might be Priority 4 on Monday. However, by Thursday, you'll find that it's in the Priority 1 category because the deadline is right around the corner. Don't be afraid to move things around on the list as needed but try to move things at the beginning and end of the day rather in the middle. Moving things around halfway through the day takes time and distracts you from the ultimate goal of getting things done.
