Blogging, Motherhood, and More

Being a mom is a much harder job than you would think - especially when you start the job hormonal, in recovery, and quickly discover new levels of sleep deprivation. I thought I was prepared for what was to come. I thought I had my ducks in a row and the blog was scheduled far enough in advance that I'd be able to regain my footing much quicker than I have. Clearly, I've never been a mom or recovered from labor before. It's much harder than it looks! High fives to all the moms out there that make it look like a breeze.

With that confession out of the way, I'm bringing you a quick post to discuss blogging, motherhood, and what the future holds for Hodge Podge Moments. I've had a lot of late night nursing sessions to think about things and I've decided I want to make a few changes. The first one you'll notice with the graphics below! I felt a new chapter of my life (and the blog) deserved a bit of a facelift.

Becoming a mom changes your world in so many ways. I had always heard people say this, but it's a concept I didn't truly grasp until three months ago when Baby Fox came into our lives. I started to grasp the concept during pregnancy but it really hit home when I first held him in my arms. I'm responsible for this little person and I want to make sure that he gets the best life has to offer him. This means that right now, I'm giving him as much love and attention as I can - regardless of what else "needs" to be done. We chose for me to stay at home for a reason and that reason is him and his needs.

That being said, taking care of Baby Fox has come before the blog on several occasions lately. Clearly I should have scheduled further out than what I did. Life is life though and all you can do is muddle through and learn from your mistakes. So, that's what I'm doing - moving forward and changing things to match this new season of my life. Don't worry - I'm still not becoming a mommy blogger!

I started this blog before I knew anything about blogging, finding your niche, or networking online. It started as a hobby and a way to share snippets of my life with the online world. I was a few months into writing this blog before I learned about blog niches and the importance of finding one that fit. I feel like that's also where I lost my way a bit - I kept trying to find a niche that fit when in actuality, no niche truly fits. Technically, the blog falls under the category of "lifestyle" but I feel like it's lost some of the authenticity that it started with. Branding and focusing on one topic aren't everything after all.

That being said, I'm taking the blog back to it's roots - to the true essence of what it was when it started - a hodge podge of all the things that make me who I am. You're going to see a little bit of this and a little bit of that without a pattern. I'm giving up on following a schedule and planning out my posts. While this has been incredibly successful for me in the past, it's also not works for this season of my life. This season of my life - motherhood as it's called - requires more flexibility and less rigidity so that I can avoid blog guilt while I place my focus on my family.

I hope you'll stick by the blog and me as we transition through this season of unpredictable sleep, topics related to being a mommy (my life right now), and my journey of maintaining sanity. I hope to bring you lots of topics to enjoy and savor over the course of the year, but I'm not making any promises of how often you'll see new posts or what they'll focus on. There is one promise I'll make though - I'm not going anywhere just yet. This blog is still a big part of who I am as a person and I'm not ready to give that up!
