Valentine’s Day is the perfect holiday for creativity and fun. It’s become such a commercialized holiday that sometimes we forget to find the fun in the holiday. This year, I want to ditch the commercialized version of Valentine’s Day and have a little fun with the people you love. Below, you’ll find five ideas to get you started.

Play with your food.

There are so many different ways that you could take this particular idea. You could keep it simple and bake something with your family. Or you could take it to the next level and turn your favorite meals into a special festive meal. Cookie cutters can be used to create hearts and a little food coloring or sprinkles can add an extra touch.

Make cards.

Cards are a time honored Valentine’s Day tradition. It’s one of the things I remember the most about this holiday from my childhood. Most kids (and some adults) purchase cards to give out to their friends. Why not make the cards extra special this year by making them? You could keep it simple with paper and crayons or you could browse Pinterest and go the extra mile. Either way, people are sure to appreciate the effort of a homemade card!

Craft together.

If you’re the crafty type, then you can take your card making a little further. Get some friends together or round up the kids and create something together. Again, you can keep it simple or you can take it a step further and tackle one of those many ideas you’ve been pinning over the years! Or am I the only one with a board full of unfinished ideas?

Dance.

Turn up the music and have an indoor (or outdoor if the weather allows) dance party! You can create a custom playlist of your favorite songs or find a Pandora station that will get you grooving. This is a great activity that can be done alone, with friends, or with your family. Don’t worry about those dance moves – this one is all about having fun!

Write a letter.

When was the last time you got a letter in the mail? When was the last time you sent a letter? It may just be me but I feel like my mailbox is overfilled with bills and advertisements. I get excited when there’s something different in there. I can’t be the only one that feels this way. Imagine the smile you can provide to someone with a few words written on a sheet of paper?

What creative ideas do you have for Valentine’s Day? Will you be doing anything special or out of the ordinary this year to celebrate?
