I recently started a group focused on creating and sharing content for blogs and social media. A question came up recently about lifestyle blogging and whether or not it’s a dying art. I thought I’d take a few moments to share my answer and give you a peek at where my mama lifestyle blog is headed. I hope you’ll take a few moments to read this update as I share about life and where we’re headed.

What is lifestyle blogging?

I thought about searching the web for an official definition. Then, I realized that I probably wouldn’t find one. Lifestyle blogging has been defined in so many different ways over the past few years. And since I’m sharing my opinion on the topic, I thought it would be fitting to share my personal definition for a lifestyle blog.

Simply put, a lifestyle blog is one that shares stories about someone’s life. This means there is a personal touch that isn’t found on more informative blogs. According to this definition, a lot of blogs fall into the category of lifestyle which is why my simple answer is that lifestyle blogs still exist and are very popular right now.

Does lifestyle blogging still exist?

Lifestyle blogging still exists but I wouldn’t say that it’s a niche on it’s own. The term used to refer to a blogger who shared stories and highlights from their personal life. If you browse popular blogs, you’ll find that many of them share personal anecdotes even if they don’t call themselves a lifestyle blogger. This is why you see someone’s whole life story before you find the recipe you need. This is why you see personal photos on a travel blog. A large part of blogging is lifestyle.

While lifestyle blogging is still very much alive, you won’t find many bloggers using it in reference to their blog. Instead, they’ll tell you the main focus or niche of their blog. Someone that shares recipes will tell you that they’re a food blogger while someone like me might say mommy blogger. In essence, lifestyle blog is a style of blog more than a blogging niche.

What does the future hold for this lifestyle blog?

I just admitted that I would call myself a mommy blogger. This is a term that’s sometimes frowned upon but it’s one I’m going to continue to use. I’m a mom and I blog about my life. I’ve floundered since becoming a mom and been quite inconsistent with this blog because I didn’t know what I wanted it to be. Recently, I’ve done some soul searching and I’ve figured it out. I’m not going to give it all away in this post though – that’s what the next few posts will be about. I have a vision for this space and I can’t wait to share it with you.

Before I go, there’s one more update I need to share – especially for my loyal readers! We’re moving at the end of June. We’ll be leaving Michigan and returning to my home state of South Carolina. This blog started while I was in South Carolina and I’m looking forward to watching it grow once more as I return to my roots. If you’re not already following me on Instagram, I would hop on over and follow @hodgepodgepam. I’ll be sharing lots of updates in the upcoming month as we pack, prep, and travel from the North to the South!
