So, one of the goals I made for August was to try 4 new recipes. I can mark that down to 3 now! I tried a new one tonight.

The recipe I set out to try was called Braided Ham & Swiss Bread. You can find the recipe by clicking on the link. I did make adjustments along the way because I was trying to use some of the things I already had in the fridge.

In her recipe, she calls for frozen bread dough or homemade dough. I wanted to make this tonight and I’m not very good at making bread yet, so I improvised. I picked up Pilsbury French Loaf in the can.

The rest of the directions I followed exactly until I got to the part where it called for cheese. I used an Italian blend of shredded cheeses. Like I said, I was trying to use some of the items already in my fridge.

I’m going to give you the quick of the recipe below.

First, roll out the dough on a flat surface. Separate it into three parts and braid it together. (See the original recipe for great pictures for this! I forgot to photograph this step – my hands were covered in flour.)

Shred deli ham and mix in the cheese.

Stuff the ham and cheese mixture into the braids of the bread. I just kept stuffing until there wasn’t any room left.

Place in oven and bake for the time listed on the package of the dough you’re using. (About 20-25 minutes.)

Take it out of the oven and brush with garlic spread and top with Parmesan cheese. Cut and serve!

This was a pretty quick meal that could be made on a busy night. It didn’t require much prep work at all. I wrapped the leftovers in the foil. I’ll let you know if the recipe survives the leftover test!

What was your dinner tonight?
