All too often, we forget about keeping ourselves happy. We spend so much time thinking about the people in our life (husbands, children, parents, siblings, friends, coworkers, etc.). This often leads to us forgetting about ourselves. We exert all of our energy on those around us and leave ourselves feeling stressed and overwhelmed.
I’m challenging you to show yourself some love this Valentine’s. I’ve listed five simple ways below that you can show yourself some love. Most of them can be short or long so that you can fit it into your busy schedule.
1. Write yourself a love letter.
Write yourself a love letter highlighting all of your positive qualities. Take the time to write it in your best handwriting and to decorate it so that it’s pretty. Stash this love letter somewhere safe and the next time you’re feeling down or stressed, pull it out to read.
2. Watch a movie alone.
Schedule a movie date with yourself. Let everyone else know that you are going to be spending the next two hours by yourself enjoying your movie. Make this a no interruption time so that you can fully enjoy the movie. Leave the electronics and disruptions at the door – this is you time.
3. Take a bubble bath.
It’s only about thirty minutes to an hour of alone time, but it can make a world of difference. Pick out your favorite fragrance, light a few candles, pour a glass of wine (if you so desire), and enjoy some calm. Again, leave the distractions at the door.
4. Treat yourself.
This could be time or money related. Don’t go overboard, but allow yourself to do or buy something that you’ve been putting off. Remember that it’s important to make yourself happy.
5. Speak up.
The next time something comes up that you don’t agree with or that you’re not happy with, give yourself permission to speak up. Sometimes we give in to the choices of others too often which makes us feel unhappy in the end. Take some time to speak up for yourself and your ideas.
What are you going to do this month to show yourself some love?
