I was supposed to post about strength yesterday for the Love Blog Challenge. I’m a cohost for this particular topic so I’m really sorry that my post didn’t make it up on time. I’ve been sick and caring for two kids all at the same time. (My husband has helped, but work means he’s not always around to help.)

I’m not sure what my original topic was for this theme. My brain is still a bit muddled and I forgot to write down my original idea. So, I had to come up with something new and that’s where I came up with the idea to share a few quick tips for taking care of kids while sick. After all, that requires a special sort of strength and creativity. So, here you go – surviving sickness and kids!

Be flexible.

When you’re sick, it’s best to be flexible with your day. This may mean adjusting naps and schedules to meet your needs. It may also mean saying no to things that were previously scheduled. It’s okay to stay home and not expose others to your germs.

Call in help.

I know it can be hard to ask for help. However, when you’re sick is the best time to call in the reinforcements – even if it’s just for an hour or two so that you can get a nap. Trust me – I also understand not having help nearby. For me, help comes in the form of Daddy when he’s home.

Bend the rules.

Sometimes simply bending the rules a little can help you get through the day. I’m not talking about something drastic. It could be as simple as allowing a bigger mess of toys than normal.

Use screentime.

I know different families have different viewpoints on screentime. Sickness is one time when I allow more screentime than normal. It’s something that can help me out temporarily until we return back to healthy status.

All in all, parenting while sick is tough. Do what you can to rest and keep the kids safe at the same time. Survival is the name of the game until you can get back to the world of thriving as a mom.

Do you have any tips to add? I’d love to hear about them in the comments below!
